Privacy policy - Windows products for home users

With G DATA Antivirus / Internet Security / Total Security (“G DATA Antivirus Software“) we provide protection against viruses, Trojans, phishing and other types of malware. G DATA Antivirus Software contains several components in which we process personal data. Detailed information on individual modules can be found below:

Malware detection

G DATA Antivirus Software performs malware detection in various modules (including malware scan, behavior monitoring, BankGuard, Exploit Protection) to identify malware, detect suspicious behavior of applications and improve our detection techniques. Under certain circumstances, suspicious files or features of these files (e.g. checksums, file sizes, file paths) are transmitted to the G DATA servers to be checked for security. If the G DATA antivirus software suspects or identifies a malware discovery, we process unique identifiers for each device and application installation (e.g. unique identifiers of application installations, operating system or malware finds used and your IP address) as well as checksums of the files identified by our application as potentially harmful and checksums of the associated paths. This data is processed to fulfill our contract with you for the use of the respective G DATA antivirus software. We also use this data for statistical evaluation of detected malware and its spread and to improve our analysis methods. If you participate in the Malware Information Initiative (MII), files recognized as defective and their associated file paths can also be transferred. You can object to the transfer of this data to G DATA within the scope of the MII at any time with effect for the future. You can activate the corresponding opt-out option in the settings of the G DATA antivirus software.

Registration

You may test G DATA Antivirus Software for a limited time free of charge. To activate your test version, we require you to provide your name and email address during the registration process. You may also enter your address. If you decide to activate a paid license we connect this data with your registration number. You may also provide the name of the partner through which you obtained your license. We use this information to activate your respective license and ensure proper licensing of our application. This data is processed in order to fulfil our contract with you regarding the use of G DATA Antivirus Software.

Updates

G DATA Antivirus Software carries out regular signature and software updates in order to maintain malware protection. The current system configuration including the version status of the components of the G DATA antivirus software is also transferred. We also process your IP address and the information you provide during registration to check your license status. This data is processed to fulfill our contract with you for the use of the respective G DATA antivirus software.

Web protection

If you activate the "Web protection", "Anti-Phishing" or "Parental control" modules, G DATA antivirus software sends URLs called from your device to our server. We process this data in order to provide you with an assessment of the security of the URL accessed. This data is processed to fulfill our contract with you for the use of the respective G DATA antivirus software.

Spam filter

If you activate the "Spam Filter" module, G DATA Antivirus software processes incoming e-mails for spam analysis. For this we work together with our technology partner Cyren. In order to compare incoming e-mails with known spam messages, we send a hash value of these e-mails to Cyren. In individual cases it can happen that e-mail contents (e.g. the message header) are also transmitted to Cyren. This also serves to classify the respective message as spam. URLs and characteristics of file attachments contained in e-mails (e.g. checksums, file sizes, file paths) are uploaded to our servers for security purposes. In rare suspicious cases, entire file attachments are also uploaded. You can object to the transfer of complete files at any time by deactivating the Malware Information Initiative (MII). This data is processed to fulfill our contract with you for the use of the respective G DATA antivirus software.

News Center

In the respective G DATA antivirus software, we provide regular or occasional information on our products, their functions and current safety-relevant topics in the "News" section. You can deactivate this at any time in the settings of the respective G DATA antivirus software.

Right to object to processing

In the event of the processing of personal data for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest (Article 6(1)(1)(e) of the GDPR) or for the purposes of legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(1)(f) of the GDPR), you can object to the processing of your personal data at any time with future effect. In the event of an objection, we must refrain from all further processing of your data for the aforementioned purposes, unless

  • •    There are compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights, and freedoms, or

•    The processing is necessary for the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims
