G DATA DeepRay: Artificial intelligence delivers breakthrough in the fight against cybercrime

An innovative new machine learning technology changes the rules of the game in the fight against cybercrime. DeepRay is the result of many years of research and development at G DATA and raises the detection of threats to a new level with the help of artificial intelligence. With this technology, G DATA is now one step ahead of cybercriminals because even sophisticated malware cannot hide from the new technology.

G DATA, the leading German manufacturer of IT security solutions, launched the first commercial virus scanner 30 years ago. Today, the company is once again demonstrating its innovative strength by presenting DeepRay, a new technology that uses machine learning to detect malicious code independently of manual analysus by virus analysts. For this purpose, G DATA has developed an AI-based self-learning system that also detects well-camouflaged malware directly on the customer's computer.

With DeepRay we change the rules of the game and deprive cybercriminals of their economic gains. Thanks to this new technology, we can look behind the camouflage of malware and effectively fend off fast-moving malware campaigns. This will significantly improve protection for our customers.

DeepRay also detects camouflaged malware

All G DATA security solutions for private customers now use a neural network consisting of several perceptrons to identify and analyse suspicious processes. This network works with an algorithm that is continuously trained through adaptive learning and the expertise of G DATA analysts. Executable files of various types are categorized using a variety of indicators - including the ratio of file size to executable code, the compiler version used and the number of imported system functions.

If DeepRay decides that a file is suspicious, a deep analysis is performed in the memory of the corresponding process. This involves identifying patterns that can be associated with the core of known malware families or general malicious behaviour. Thanks to DeepRay, G DATA security solutions detect disguised malicious files much earlier than legacy technologies, so that they can prevent damage from malware even at an early stage of an infection campaign.

Customers immediately benefit from DeepRay

After BankGuard, ExploitProtection and CloseGap, the new DeepRay technology will deliver a better level of protection and make it as difficult as possible for cybercriminals to achieve economic success at the expense of users. DeepRay will be distributed immediately to all G DATA customers. Consumers are therefore already protected today against tomorrow's IT security threats.
